FULLERTON FAVORED TO REPEAT IN CALFORNIA CC FOOTBALL

San Mateo – Fullerton College is the choice to defend its California Community College Athletic Association football championship in 2017, according to the annual preseason poll of California Community College football coaches conducted by the JC Athletic Bureau.
The Hornets (12-1) won the 2016 championship game, defeating visiting American River College, 29-27.

Other predicted top contenders in 2017 are No. 2 American River (10-3), Butte (9-3), Riverside (10-2), Ventura (8-3), and Saddleback (9-2)—which was the top team at the end of the 2016 regular season.
With top Southern California Football Association National Division teams engaged in crossovers against American Division foes the first week, the top initial match-ups on Sept. 2 take place in the Northern California Football Conference: No. 9 Santa Rosa at No. 3 Butte, No. 19 Diablo Valley at No. 2 American River, No. 12 Laney at No. 10 San Francisco, No. 11 Modesto at No. 13 San Mateo, and No. 25 West Hills at No. 15 Shasta. The south will get a bit more serious on Sept. 9 with Ventura at Mt. San Antonio, Saddleback at Long Beach, Cerritos at Fullerton, and Golden West at Riverside.

STATE FINALS AT SAC: The state championship game will move to Northern California in 2017, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9 at a predetermined site, Sacramento City College’s Hughes Stadium.
NEW COACHES: Ten of the CCCAA’s 68 football teams have new head coaches for the 2017 season.

–The NCFC has six new leaders among its 31 programs: Robby Snelling at Butte College in Oroville, Darren Arbet at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Eric Fanene at Chabot College in Hayward, Patrick Henderson at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, Nick Goulet at Feather River College in Quince, and Justin Berna at West Hills College in Coalinga.
–The SCFA has four new head coaches for its 37 teams: Dan Algattas at San Bernardino Valley College, Nate Turner at Los Angeles Southwest College, Matt White at Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys, and Steven Mojarro as interim head coach at Pasadena City College. The CCCAA, with 68 teams, has the USA’s largest 2-year college football program (compared to 65 teams competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association).
