GIRLS NEAT PACKAGE: WEST COAST JAMBOREE WRAP UP

by / Wednesday, 31 December 2014 / Published in News

The West Coast Jamboree came to an end with mixed results for the local teams.

There were eleven teams in the spectacle in nine different tournaments.  They had a combined record of 15-18 and won one championship.

Willits won the championship in the Pearl Bracket.  The Wolverines defeated De Anza 62-34 in the championship game. They won the three games by a combined 86 points.

Willits went into the tournament with a 1-7 record.

The rest of the tournament was a mixed bag.

The most disappointing was probably No. 1 Cardinal Newman who lost all three games.  The Cardinals were in the Diamond Division and played three powerhouses in an incredibly strong bracket.  Still it was a disappointing tournament, especially when you add to it that the three teams that beat Cardinal Newman didn’t win another game.

The three teams Cardinal Newman lost to have a combined record of 21-8.  Going into the tournament those three were a combined 18-2.  The three teams are playoff teams every season and have had a big impact on the State Playoffs and they all went 1-2.

That should tell you how tough that bracket was.

Cardinal Newman has had a brutal schedule and is still over .500 at 6-5.  They meet Bradshaw Christian on Friday, before opening NBL play at Montgomery on Tuesday.
The best showing for the local teams, besides Willits winning its title, was in the Opal Bracket where No. 3 Casa Grande and Analy each went 2-1.  Both teams lost to the teams that ended up in the championship game by a combined eight points.
