League races begin to take shape, so let’s review it all.
Sonoma County League
The theme of the SCL this year is that Analy will beat everyone, and everyone else beats each other. That’s what has happened as Analy sits atop in 1st place at 8-0 in SCL play, followed by Petaluma at 6-3, Piner and Healdsburg tied for third at 5-4. In the past week, Petaluma Beat Healdsburg 60-55, and Piner beat Healdsburg 56-50. Analy beat Healdsburg 58-41 last night, And Piner beat Petaluma 57-44. Analy has beat everyone pretty easily, except a scare from Piner earlier in the year. If I did my math right, Piner holds the third place tiebreaker with Healdsburg at the moment
Tomorrow night features Piner going to Analy in a big contest. Should Analy win, Piner would drop to 5-5 and potentially secure a 4 seed in the SCL tournament. Petaluma hosts Sonoma Valley as the Dragons look to remain in the playoff hunt. As the rest of the season winds down, we could see some exciting basketball.
North Bay League
Cardinal Newman is the NBL leader at 9-0. Followed by Windsor at 8-1, Montgomery 6-2 and Santa Rosa 5-4. All theee of the teams behind Newman have a shot to have a say in who takes this NBL Title.
Tonight Santa Rosa will travel to Cardinal Newman. For the Cardinals, this can be a “Trap” game, although Santa Rosa is much improved. Then on Thursday, Newman and Montgomery will battle in round three this year. Monty won the matchup in the Brett Callan tourney 55-45, then Newman won on their home floor a few weeks back 51-41. If Newman falters this week, the NBL becomes wide open.
