SRJC WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON WITH POTENTIALLY HUGE GAME

by / Saturday, 14 November 2015 / Published in News

This is the second season that the SRJC Bear Cubs have being playing their home games on Saturday at 5 pm. It helped them get on local radio and by some accounts; it has helped the size of the crowds.

The late Saturday start has another advantage. SRJC, who is ranked No. 13 in the state, is wrapping up the 2015 regular season against No. 25 Diablo Valley. When kickoff time arrives, the Bear Cubs will know how important of a game this is and it could be the most important game in sometime.

SRJC Takes firld

SRJC taking the field a few weeks ago vs CCSF.

At 1 pm, when the team and fans are taking care of the Saturday details, which will include getting ready to go to the game, they will be trying to pay attention to another game that will be kicking off.

That game is San Francisco at San Mateo. This is a classic game to end the regular season between the No. 1 and No. 3 team in the state. They are also No. 1 and No. 2 in Northern California and are most likely playing for a State Playoff spot.

The two are also playing for a share of the league championship. If No. 1 San Francisco wins, they are league champions again.

If No. 3 San Mateo wins, things get a little more complicated. Not for San Francisco and San Mateo, they would be co-champions. The question would  then be how much of a tie it would be. This is where Santa Rosa comes in and all of a sudden the finale is the biggest game for SRJC in quite some time, because they would be playing for a share of the league championship.

The fact that the Bear Cubs can even think about a league championship on the last day of the season makes this a special season. They have already assured they will finish over .500 in league play for the first time since 2008.

This game is also important to Diablo Valley. It doesn’t matter to them the results of the San Francisco-San Mateo game. Either way they are playing for a second place tie with SRJC.

If San Mateo should beat San Francisco, Diablo Valley will have the extra incentive of the spoiler role.
